Ross Good Neighbours volunteer answering helpline calls from home

The Ross Good Neighbour Scheme is a project of the newly established charity Ross Community Development Trust.  In March, our plans to launch as a small scheme to combat loneliness in Ross changed dramatically, as we read of the developing COVID situation in Italy and elsewhere.  After discussions with key health and voluntary group partners, an appeal was launched for volunteers from the community.

By the last week of March we had a range of services up and running. Initially, they included Shopping (delivering groceries and other essentials to front doors), Phone Friends (our friendly volunteers phone every day to check that all is OK), Pharmacy deliveries (in cooperation with Ross Lions and Rotary Clubs), and Pets (volunteers do dog walking and other tasks if owners are not able).

During April, as the epidemic took hold, we have continued to review community needs and additional services are now in place. So we now offer a Home from Hospital service (for those released from hospital after treatment).  There is a Sewing Team (producing scrub bags for our brave local carers) and we are also working with local doctors’ surgeries to assist with providing medical equipment to those who need it.

We have also been in touch with local parishes, and are now in partnership with Bridstow, Brampton Abbots/Foy, Lea, Upton Bishop, Weston-under-Penyard and Walford.

Accessing our services is simple.  If you are online just go to www.rosscdt.org.uk.  But we have taken care to be accessible also to those who are not online.  Please spread the word to your off-line neighbours and friends that they can contact us by phone.  They just need to dial 01763 802046 for our recorded message and then press 2 to leave their name and phone number.  One of our volunteers will call back promptly.

So please take advantage of the wide range of services we offer and put us in touch if you know of a neighbour, friend or family member who might also benefit from our assistance. Simply email help@rosscdt.org.uk  –  or call the Message line!
