Well so far this year we have experienced typical summer weather – a real mix! We had a very enjoyable session on Good Friday at The Yew Tree, Peterstow as part of their Ciderganza weekend, even if it was a little chilly. May Day Bank Holiday found us at Llangrove May Fayre, great afternoon complete with Maypole dancing, not us we hasten to add, congratulations on the amazing turnout on what was quite a breezy afternoon. June found us at the Ross Hospital Fete another enjoyable afternoon supporting a very worthy local charity. Our thanks and congratulations to all on organising these events, for your kind invitation and for the very warm welcome.
We were thrilled to kick off the Bands in The Park season in May on a beautiful summer’s afternoon, neither raincoats nor jumpers were required, and the ice cream looked amazing from the Bandstand as did our audience. A big thank you to Ross for the wonderful turn out to support your town band and enjoy some live music, we do appreciate it.
As we approach our summer break we are looking for an Interim Musical Director/Conductor. Our resident musical director is unable to take rehearsals from September to December 2025, so we’re looking for someone, or two people, who’d like to work with both, or either, our training and main bands. We are a friendly, enthusiastic non-contesting band looking for the right person to continue working with us as we prepare for our ever-popular Christmas concert. We have a range of abilities, but we work hard and endeavour to give our best as we play together, enjoying the support given to each other by fellow band members and our leader.
We are based at the Larruperz Centre in Ross on Wye, and rehearse every Friday evening, in term time. The Training Band meet between 6.00pm to 7.00pm and the Main band 7.30pm to 9.00pm. However, these times could be adjusted slightly if necessary. Ideally, we’d like our interim MD to conduct the band at their afternoon Christmas concert on Sunday 7th December.
Our first rehearsal will be on Friday 12th September 2025 and this would be a remunerated position. For more information or to express an interest please contact us at rosstownband@gmail.com
If you are interested in joining the band, learning an instrument, or honing your existing playing skills then do contact us we’d love to hear from you and help you to rekindle your skills or discover a new hobby.
