Ross Rotary

We work with Ross Lions Club on The Beer & Cider Festival as a community event.

The festival has run successfully for the last six years until covid struck. We are pleased to say the festival will be back on the first May Bank Holiday in 2022. We will be offering a minimum 40 beers and 15 ciders over two days. Also, we will be running our successful Prosecco bar for all to enjoy.

We will need volunteers to support this event.

Two full days of live music, fun, beer tasting and dancing by the river. Enjoyed by nearly 2,000 people over two days. The festival provides both organisations with the funds to support local charities in Ross and the surrounding area.

Ross Rotary work with other organisations- connecting Men’s Sheds and legs4africa

We are proud to work with the project “Legs for Africa” by introducing the Ross-on-Wye Men’s Shed to this scheme. We collect old prosthetic legs from around the South West and deliver them to the Men’s Shed in Ross for them to dismantle them into their component parts for shipping to Africa.

In Africa, they are serviced and reassembled to fit clients needs. This is a win, win situation. Prosthetic legs get a second life. Men’s Sheds have a project to work on, and more legs can be transported to Africa for a lower cost. A win for Men’s Sheds and a win for the African people who receive new legs.

Last year, we worked with Hanks Butchers on a free Christmas parcel scheme

Hank butchers supplied Christmas meats, and we were very happy to supply fresh vegetables and other Christmas necessities to help make a Merry Christmas. The picture below shows our Past President loading her car with food parcels last year. We hope to be able to do the same this Christmas.

One of the many ways Rotary support our community

The Club supported the town chemists during the pandemic via the Community Development Trust, who started the volunteers programme

The volunteers were managed by Rotary for the CDT.

One of our members organised a system to arrange for the volunteers to collect and deliver over 380 pharmacy prescriptions during the first lockdown. The system was used again during the second lockdown to continue supporting the local pharmacies again with hundreds more prescription deliveries.

During the vaccination role-out the same member arranged over 150 volunteers either at Larruperz, and doctors surgeries in Ross-on-Wye, Fownhope and Much Birch with over 3,500 volunteer hours helping to deliver over 13,500 vaccinations.

We would like to thank all volunteers for the support they gave the NHS and the people of Ross during the pandemic.

We are supporting the Zero Food Waste project in the Ross Community Gardens by funding zero waste to buy new sheds enabling them store their supplies and equipment safely.

We are also involved with the Pumpkin competition, part of the Community Garden project. We are supplying prizes for the best grown pumpkin, best carved pumpkin and the best recipe for a cooked pumpkin. It’s great to see all the FUN.

Supporting our local community

Our main focus is working with people who need support in the community. Above we organised a day out for people who are disabled or have learning difficulties.

The great day out was on the Sharpness Canal from Saul Junction stopping for a picnic on the banks of the canal. A fun day for all!

Afternoon Tea for Salters Hill team and others.

Several different groups from Ross-on-Wye were invited to tea and cake at the Chase Hotel. Over 60 people attended plus a musical interlude.

A lovely afternoon was enjoyed by all

We are proud of our history supporting many charities home and abroad from providing eye equipment for our local hospital. Serving Christmas breakfasts for local children in Labels restaurant plus a visit from Santa during breakfast.

We have held Christmas parties in the past for the young and old in the area,

Recently we have held afternoon teas for the similar groups, once again to bring people together.

Rotary was founded in Ross in 1950, join us to take us forward. We need new members to support us in our projects and have fun doing it.

We meet every Monday evening at 6:30 for 7:00 pm Castle Lodge Hotel Wilton HR9 6AD
