Volunteering In Ross-on-Wye

Volunteer With Other Local Groups

There are plenty of opportunities to work as a volunteer with charities and local organisations in Ross-on-Wye and across Herefordshire. The Ross-on-Wye Community Development Trust is keen to support these groups by promoting vacancies, as well as the work that these groups do.

The Severn Treescapes: Dead Wood Society

Surveyors

The Severn Treescapes: Dead Wood Society is a project looking to find out more about the orchards within the three counties.

Surveying of traditional orchards and veteran trees to contribute towards the Dead Wood Society phase of the Severn Treescapes project, a partnership between Gloucestershire, Herefordshire and Worcestershire Wildlife Trusts.

Surveyors will be trained to use the Treescapes traditional orchards and veteran trees survey, recording the presence of various important species and habitat indicators that will contribute to the project’s network mapping. A Treescapes advisor will be responsible for providing training, risk assessments and safeguarding protocol as well as organising sites to survey. Ongoing support will be available throughout the survey programme.

If you have any experience in this area or would like to find out more about the upcoming opportunities please keep an eye on our social media pages, or contact us: SevernTreescapes@gloucestershirewildlifetrust.co.uk

Ross Juniors Football Club

Community Outreach Programme - Helpers

The Ross Juniors Football Club Community Outreach Programme continues to go from strength to strength. In particular, the PAN Disability Group is flourishing but, herein, lies the challenge. We pride ourselves in providing activities that are accessible for all but as the numbers increase so too do the demands on the coaches. We really could do with additional help to accommodate the range of abilities within the group.

If you are interested in assisting in any way, please contact Jim Loftus (07903 010475) or Gareth Nutt (07583 232656) for more details.

Ross Town Band

Ross Town Band

Interim Musical Director/Conductor

We are seeking a temporary leader, as our resident musical director is unable to take rehearsals from September to December 2025.

We’d like them to work with both our training and main bands, to ensure continuity as members move from one to the other. We are a friendly, enthusiastic non-contesting band looking for the right person to continue working with us as we prepare for our Christmas concert.

We have a range of abilities and welcome new members throughout the year, but we work hard and endeavour to give our best as we play together. The strong players want to be stretched, whilst our less confident players enjoy the support given to them by fellow band members and our leader.

We are based at the Larruperz Centre in Ross on Wye, Herefordshire and rehearse every Friday evening, in term time. The Training Band meet between 6.00pm to 7.00pm and the Main band 7.30pm to 9.00pm. However, these times could be adjusted slightly if necessary. Ideally, we’d like our interim MD to conduct the band at their afternoon Christmas concert on Sunday 7th December.

Our first rehearsal will be on Friday 12th September 2025.

This would be a remunerated position.
For more information or to express an interest please contact us at rosstownband@gmail.com

New members are always welcome in all sections

We are a friendly band that get together for the enjoyment of making music and entertaining the people of Ross and surrounding areas, we are a non-contesting and non-marching brass band. Our repertoire is wide and varied.

Main Band rehearsals take place in The Larruperz Centre in Ross on Friday evenings from 7:30pm to 9pm
(First room on the right as you enter the building). You are welcome to drop in for a blow or, if you prefer, contact us first.

If you want to brush up your existing playing skills, why not come along to the Training Band which meets at The Larruperz Centre on Friday evenings from 6:00pm to 7pm.

Never played a brass instrument before, or maybe not since school!, at any age (you are never too old!)

We would love to get you going in this amazing hobby, we will teach you from the ground up, from your first blow.

We meet at the Larruperz Centre on Friday evenings at 5:30 to 6pm

Professional tuition is also available.
