We are seeking to recruit a small team of volunteers to help us run our DBS checking service. This helps Herefordshire voluntary groups to get the necessary DBS checks for their volunteers free of charge. We do many checks for groups beyond the Ross area and so are looking for countersignatories from across Herefordshire.
What’s involved?
As a DBS Check Countersignatory you would:
- Undergo initial vetting by the Disclosure and Barring Service
- Attend initial and update training
- Contact applicants to explain ID requirements and book appointments
- Make face-to-face checks of documentation
- Maintain online records
- Deal with application queries
- Maintain strict confidentiality and data protection
Time commitment
This will depend on the number of checks you volunteer to do. We estimate each check can take up to four hours to complete, from the initial booking to dealing with any queries the DBS may raise. Counter-signatories are expected to do at least 12 checks per year.
