From 4 May 2023, voters in England will need to show photo ID to vote at polling stations in some elections. This will apply to local elections, police and crime commissioner elections, UK parliamentary by-elections and recall petitions. From October 2023 it will also apply to UK General elections.
The new requirement for voters to show photo ID when voting at a polling will apply for the first time in Herefordshire at the local elections on Thursday 4 May 2023.
Voters can use any of the following photo ID:
- Passport
- Driving licence (including provisional licence)
- Blue badge
- Certain concessionary travel cards
- Identity card with PASS mark (Proof of Age Standards Scheme)
- Biometric Immigration document
- Defence identity card
- Certain national identity cards
If you don’t already have an accepted form of photo ID, you can apply for a free voter ID document, known as a Voter Authority Certificate, by logging online at https://voter-authority-certificate.service.gov.uk.
You can also phone the Ross Good Neighbours Helpline (01989 313002) and they will help you make the application.
To request a paper application form, email Herefordshire Council at canvass@herefordshire.gov.uk.
